Counting Traffic

Counting Traffic

Traffic counts are a key piece of data that is helps us understand how a street is being used. But the majority of traffic counting devices only count cars, so even when a traffic study is done we don’t know how many people are walking or biking.

A better way to count

We’re testing out the new Telraam S2 traffic counting device, which can count people walking, biking, and driving all at the same time. It knows which direction people are moving and it also calculates an estimated speed of the cars going by.

How it works

The Telraam is mounted indoors on a window and uses a camera with machine vision software to count and classify everything that moves by on the street. It then uploads that data every 15 minutes to Telraam’s servers so anyone can view the counts from a web-based dashboard.

Get your own counter

If you’d like to know what traffic is like on your street, you can buy your own Telraam S2. Look for the “Personal” edition that’s available from Telraam’s online store.
