About Bikescape

Bikescape, Inc. is a grassroots, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization.

Our mission is to enhance Provincetown’s bicycle culture through education, activities, and programs to support our year-round bicycle community.

bikescape /bīke′skāp″/ noun. 1) The elements of a place, including the people, activities, street design, and government commitment to bicycling, that combine to form a community’s bicycle culture. 2) Provincetown’s community bicycle organization. 3) A streetscape that supports safe bicycling.

What we do

We’re implementing our mission through outreach that focuses on three areas: Ride, Repair, and Share.

These include free group bike rides, free bike repair popups, and our Bike Match program to find bikes for folks who need them.

We also publish visualizations that show how to make streets safer along with educational resources about best-practice street design through our Safer Streetscape project.

How are we funded?

  • Memberships: Annual memberships expand our network of people who want to support bicycling through active participation, whether that’s going on a ride, learning how to fix their bike, or checking items out of our Library of Things. Annual memberships are also available to community members in exchange for volunteer hours.
  • Donations: Financial donations, whether one-time or recurring, help underwrite our projects. Donations of bicycles, bike parts, and bike supplies help us fix and maintain bikes so that underserved members of the community have access to working bikes.
  • Donations in-kind: Contributions of professional expertise, products, and services help us do more with our limited financial resources.

How donations help

  • $25 subsidizes a bike lock
  • $55 subsidizes a set of bike lights
  • $100 will rehab a used bike
  • $500 will buy a permanent traffic counter
  • $1,000 helps buy professional tools for bike repairs
  • $5,000 helps buy an electric cargo bike to share through our Library of Things
  • $10,000 rents a workshop space for a year
